SWEETWOOD TELLS THE STORY OF 22 YEAR-OLD SAM DELACOUR, A MCGILL UNIVERSITY HONOURS STUDENT WHO IS FORCED TO LEAVE SCHOOL WHEN TRAGEDY STRIKES BACK HOME.
Home is a 100-acre sugar maple forest in the backwoods of Nova Scotia. For over five generations, the reclusive Delacour Family – a dysfunctional group of nieces, uncles and cousins-have devoted themselves to the syrup cooking arts, under the brand name Sweetwood Farms. Following the untimely death of her father, it falls on Sam to bring the family together to save the failing business. An economics major, the first to leave the nest, she returns to old feuds and odd traditions, along with a budding romance with the hired hand. At the centre of it all lies a mystery-the dark secret behind the family’s prize-winning syrup — a recipe dating back to a wooded battlefield in World War I. A legacy from which Sam can no longer hide.
