Since its festival premiere in Toronto in 2002, Keith Behrman’s first feature Flower & Garnet has received amazing attention at home and abroad. At the 2003 Genie Awards, a special jury of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television selected Keith as the recipient of the 2003 Claude Jutra Award, which recognizes best first feature of the year. The film was also one of the first films to be chosen for the Panorama Section of the 2003 Berlin Film Festival. Keith also received the Telefilm Canada Award for Best Emerging Director from Western Canada at the Vancouver International Film Festival. To top off the string of accolades, Flower & Garnet was chosen by a panel of Canadian filmmakers and critics as one of Canada’s Top Ten films of 2002. Flower & Garnet was awarded the Grand Jury Narrative Prize at the 2004 Boston International Film Festival.

Keith Behrman began his career as a filmmaker with the short film Thomas (1994), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, won the Judges’ Prize at the Northwest Film and Video Festival and appeared on CBC’s Canadian Reflections. His second short film, White Cloud, Blue Mountain (1997) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was also broadcast on CBC. His third short film, Ernest (2000) premiered the Toronto International Film Festival and was awarded Honourable Mention for the John Spotten Award for Best Short Film. Keith’s upcoming feature film, Guided by Wire, is in development at Screen Siren Pictures with the support of CBC and BC Film. Keith is an alumnus of the Director’s Residency program of the Canadian Film Centre and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Simon Fraser University.
