Ben Lewis
Ben Lewis is an award-winning director with a reputation for making funny films about serious subjects, as international co-productions. In documentaries as diverse as R.U.E.U? (a satire on the EU) and Nicolae Ceaucescu: The King of Communism and Gursky World (on German photographer Andreas Gursky) Ben uses humour to make analytical, intelligent and highly accessible documentaries for audiences all over Europe. He speaks four European languages and works invariably with a team of producers, editors and cameramen from all corners of Europe. In 2001 Ben won the Grierson award for best historical documentary for The King of Communism. He has completed one season of Art Safari, the four-part series on contemporary art for BBC4, TV2, YLE and ZDF through his own production company ‘Bergmann Pictures’ and is nearing completion of the second season. Reviews for this series ran ‘the funniest 30 minutes on TV this week’ (The Guardian) and ‘Ben Lewis is the Louis Theroux of the art world’.
